I was very hesitant about making a blog so I waited until the last minute to do it.. I have no idea what to write but there's just one thing that's been bothering me.. I had trouble sleeping.. I couldn't eat.. I was so frustrated! Can you guess what it is? Yeah! I'm really worried about which template to use! There's just so many of them! Different designs. So many colors! I cannot pick just one! HAHA.. :) Kidding aside, I'm worried about how I'm going to start this blog.
Endocrinology
For the average people, when they hear the ENDOCRINE SYSTEM and ENDOCRINOLOGY, they immediately associate it with hormones, growth, metabolism, glands, and development. But let’s run away from mediocrity and think deeper and more creatively..
Have you ever wondered, what turns you on? What makes your breasts grow? Have you asked the question why is she taller than me? Why does this girl have a mustache? Why is she so moody? And what causes a guy’s erection?
Endocrinology is not just a boring branch of biology and medicine dealing with the endocrine system. It doesn't just tackle specific gland secretions called hormones which initiate biochemical reactions responsible for homeostasis. It doesn't just talk about the enzymes that hastens or catalyzes reactions. It also answers questions of how and why. It gives us the reasons for physiological changes in our body.
It is wonderful to study Endocrinology because it gives us a cause and effect relationship about things that are happening in our body. So, it’s not true that men grow taller because of circumcision. Neither does masturbation for those who are wondering. ;)
Now who's ready to hear about the fun stuff???
We have these so called endocrine glands.. And these are the amazing little buggers responsible for the production and secretion of our hormones.. Maybe I can compare them to the gears of a well-oiled machine.. :) Gears are interdependent on one another.. They would not work without the other.. And the machine would not function as well as it should be if its parts are not working properly..
Now let me introduce you to the endocrine glands.. :)) (drum roll please!)

- Pituitary Gland
- Thyroid Gland
- Parathyroid Glands
- Adrenal Gland
- Pineal Gland

Toxicology
Being a full-fledged party animal, Britney Spears' song "Toxic" is what comes to my mind when I hear the word.. "With a taste of your lips I'm on a ride.. You're toxic, I'm slipping under.. With a taste of your poison paradise.. I'm addicted to you don't you know that you're toxic?" I'm sure you were singing along with me and shaking what your mama gave you as you were reading the lyrics to the song.. HAHA.. :))
But eventually, my scientific instinct kicks in.. Oh! Yeah! It's the study of the adverse effects of chemicals on living organisms..
When is enough, enough? (I know it's redundant but I'm trying to make a point here so bear with me..) How much is too much? How plenty is a spoonful? How huge is a huge amount? And how minute is minute? LOL.. Wasn't that fun? :)
Anywhoooooo, To simplify the definition, Toxicology is a branch of science which studies our physical limit, resistance and tolerance to different chemicals and substances.. :)

Drug Testing
Now who could forget this scene? My heart literally stopped beating when my dear Edward Cullen said these lines.. "Your scent is like a drug to me, you're like my own personal brand of heroin." (Twilight fans screaming in the background) WOAH! I've watched it like 5 times before I posted it here and it gave me goosebumps every time I hit play.. :) My arrector pili muscles would not behave! :) (yes, I listened during Anatomy class)
Is it too obvious that I'm way too excited for Breaking dawn to come out? hahaha! Sorry if I sidetracked you readers (if there are any :/ )
Drug testing is usually done to check for illegal drug abuse by employees (before an offer of employment or random drug testing after hire) and also for students (before admission to a university).. A drug test can also be utilized to assess possible accidental or intentional overdose, monitoring compliance with a rehabilitation program and to determine presence or absence of drugs involving medico-legal purposes.. Oh BTW, medico-legal purposes, for those whose noses are oozing with blood, has something to do with forensics.. YUP, the cool stuff we watch on CSI, NCIS, Criminal Minds, Bones, etc.. :)))
Urine specimens, venous blood, saliva and even strands of hair can be used for drug testing.. Isn't that just astounding? Admit it.. The advances in technology nowadays are so marvelous that even small samples taken from your fingernails may be used to conduct a drug test..
If the test is used as a way of screening, illegal drugs, prescription drugs and alcohol can also be detected.. Here's a list of commonly abused and commonly tested substances:
- Cocaine
- Amphetamines
- Heroin
- Morphine
- Phencyclidine (PCP) (aka angel dust)
- Alcohol
- Benzodiazepines
- Hydromorphone
- Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (the active ingredient in Marijuana)
- Propoxyphene
- Methadone
- Codeine
- Barbiturates
- Antidepressants
